Intro to Jacquard weaving
In this workshop you will learn how to create a Jacquard weaving from your original drawing, image or design, using Photoshop, taught over two half days + an additional scheduled weaving time.
You will also get a general overview of historical and contemporary Jacquard weaving.
Please bring several images on a USB Drive to your first class. You will create a file using simple weave structures in black and white or black with one colour. Weaving will be done on a computerized AVL Jacq3G Jacquard hand-loom for a small piece.
We will send you more detailed information before classes start.
Requirements: Image manipulation and proficiency with Photoshop is required and you should have your own laptop with some version of Photoshop, although we do have an older IMAC available for a participant. A weaving background is helpful but not required and projects can be adapted to focus more on the design process or weaving.
Costs:$260 including materials
Refresher / Intermediate Jacquard Weaving
usually this happens in a one-to –one situation, with 1 or 2 hours of consultation/teaching ($40/hr) related to your specific needs + loom rental ($50/ ½ day fee) and materials.
You will focus on creating your own larger woven piece using single weft or multiple weft colours. Bring a few designs or images to the class and we will discuss various options. We will review and expand on the basic processes of design/image manipulation in creating a Jacquard weaving file. You will work on your own design and will have access to an extensive library of weaves to weave samples and/or projects.
Requirements:
Intro to Jacquard weaving or previous experience with Jacquard weaving; you will need access to Photoshop and a computer. Arrangements can be made to have your file woven for additional costs.
